JR COMMERCIAL PLUMBING MECHANIC
Construction Division 

Purpose and Scope:

​

Jr Commercial Plumbing Mechanic play a vital role in the success of our company. They work under the direct supervision of a Lead Mechanic and are responsible for ensuring jobs are completed on schedule, from layout preparation to final installation and testing. They act as a crucial communication link between the job site and management. Jr. Commercial Plumbing Mechanics provide supervision for the installation of commercial piping, HVAC systems, and related equipment, ensuring high-quality work. They also contribute to the development of apprentices and helpers. In some cases, they may be assigned to projects or tasks in other departments as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize the work site to meet goals and priorities.

  • Provide clear instructions to supervisees and ensure their work is done correctly.

  • Perform work with superior workmanship and adherence to standards.

  • Work according to codes and blueprints.

  • Communicate change orders effectively between the office and the field.

  • Lead in implementing safety regulations and policies.

  • Identify and implement cost-effective procedures.

  • Maintain company-owned property and equipment.

  • Interpret and apply blueprints during layout preparation.

  • Solve problems by involving relevant trades/groups and analyzing the situation.

  • Foster a cooperative work environment.

  • Assist in evaluating apprentices working under you.

  • Organize job operations, including material ordering and scheduling.

  • Attend training opportunities for continuous learning.

  • Coordinate work with other crews, subcontractors, and supervisors.

  • Communicate with supervisors regarding job-related matters.

  • Attend required meetings.

​Organizational Leadership:

Jr. Commercial Plumbing Mechanics report to the Lead Mechanic when part of a crew and to the Piping Field Supervisor when leading a job. They may supervise helpers and apprentices on a job-by-job basis.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must have completed the Blauch Brothers AQS or equivalent experience. 

  • Education and Training: Vocational training in plumbing, piping, or sheet metal; Journeyman Tradesman License preferred; Eligibility for license or equivalent experience required.

  • Experience: Field experience required; Previous supervisory experience desired.

  • Additional Skills or Requirements: Valid Virginia Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform physical tasks common in the construction industry, including kneeling, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, bending, crawling, and lifting at least 50 lbs. Must be comfortable working in various weather and job site conditions.
