SHEET METAL FIELD SUPERVISOR
(HARRISONBURG)
Purpose and Scope:
​
The Field Supervisor fulfills a critical role in the success of the BBI. They provide hands on leadership, technical support, and set the standard in order to achieve our team’s mission and vision. The goal of this position is to lead our Field Crews and promote professional/personal growth of the team in order to meet the fast pace deadlines within our industry. The Field Supervisor will be responsible to schedule, monitor and organize day to day work in coordination with his Field Operations Manager, VDC, Service, and Project Managers.

Normal Work Schedule:
​
This will typically be a Monday through Friday role, working 42 to 45 hours a week, 9 to 9.5 hour days. The hours may vary as needed to meet project deadlines and may include weekends.

Responsibilities:
​
The responsibilities of the Sheet Metal Field Supervisor include but are not limited to:
​
Daily
-
Fill out Daily logs on activities of the day (Documentation is key)
-
Visit jobsites for quality assurance, inspect what is expected of the crews, and provides technical support with questions.

Properly manage emails and communicate accordingly and professionally
-
Coordinate & troubleshoot with safety Dept., Engineering, PM, Warehouse, Pre-fab, estimating and Service Dept. in order to meet work demands and request.

Weekly
-
Review project schedules for manpower needs
-
Review weekly SIP on all applicable jobs
-
Participate in Friday morning project review meeting
-
Attend Thursday morning manpower meeting
-
Intentionally mentor and work with the Sr./Lead Mechanics to mentor team members through the BBI tier growth program
-
Screen recruits by taking them to jobsites during the interview process
-
Participate via phone and/or in person interviews for all open positions within their team (Sheet Metal/ Plumbing/ Welding, etc.)

Build field schedules
-
Perform any and all other duties assigned/requested by Field Operations Manager
-
Plan and organize jobs on a week to week basis to meet priorities, goals and material budgets
-
Forecast man power demand for upcoming work weeks with project management
-
Visits every project with manpower on it at least once a week, possibly more depending on the manpower we have on the project (experienced or unexperienced), complexity of project, length of project, etc.

Monthly

Participate in the project forecast, progress, and/or pre-construction meetings as requested.

Execute the monthly inspection of company provided fire extinguishers on your company vehicle, jobsite, and equipment
​
Annually
-
Review department OKR’s and quantified outcomes that are applicable to your role
-
Support creating, revising, and/or adjusting OKR’s as required by your department lead (Field Operation Manager)
-
Responsible to provide constructive feedback through annual reviews for Field Sr./Lead Mechanics
-
Assist Lead Mechanics ensuring they provide constructive feedback through Annual reviews and/or (30/60/90 & 6 month reviews)
-
Responsible to ensure all reviews for their field team are being done on time and as scheduled

Participate in personal annual review

General
-
Participate in all required continuous improvement meetings
-
Participate in the project start-up, pre-start walk through, project forecast, progress, pre-construction, and other meetings as requested
-
Assists with the creation of controls budgets and ensures that overall budget stays within estimated budget
-
Enter time accurately (Daily)
-
Must plan the day, week, month to meet deadlines and projects
-
Lead by example by being a professional manager & complying following BBI policies (safety, HR, etc.)

Maintain company vehicle clean and presentable
-
Establish and maintain standard installation procedures
-
Responsible to review materials take off as needed
-
Documents infractions and facts to back up disciplinary actions
-
Collaborates with safety inspections of the jobs & site training
-
Approach the BBI Project Managers and Field Foreman as if they are your customers.

Identify and implement cost effective procedures as appropriate
-
Participate in training opportunities (formal and informal) to stay current in systems and technology and techniques and to gain additional knowledge
-
Supports and participates in The Unified Group, trade and peer groups, through attendance at training events, communication via email and responding to other members

Research and recommend procedures in the continuous improvement of the Administrative support process
-
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends
-
Ability to work overtime, holidays, flexible hours, weekends and travel as necessary to accommodate our customers’ needs

Field Supervisors reports to Blauch Brothers, Inc. Field Operations Manager

Field Supervisors supervise Field Sr./ Lead Mechanics, Jr. Mechanics, and apprentices within their team and can perform documented verbal counseling when needed

Technical Competencies

10+ years of technical experience in a skilled trade (Plumbing, welding, Sheet Metal, refrigeration, pipe-fitting, etc.)

Must hold VA and WV Masters tradesman license

Must have understanding of Mechanical Contracting materials

Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook email, Tech tool, Web- based reporting system, and the BBI Network file system

Additional Requirement:
Valid Driver’s License required along with an acceptable driving record as defined by our insurer, must have/pass acceptable criminal background check
​
Experience:
4-6 years of Welding/piping trade knowledge, supervisory and management experience preferred. Prior construction experience required.
​
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to do moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, and reaching; routinely lift and carry parts and equipment anywhere from 15-75 pounds; Possess manual dexterity to complete projects in a craftsman fashion. The following capabilities are required but not limited to: able to see for purposes of reading instructions, blueprints and other printed matter; ability to operate computer hardware; able to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone; able to communicate verbally so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person and/or on the telephone.
