VDC MANAGER
(HARRISONBURG SERVICE DEPARTMENT)

Job Description:

The VDC Manager is accountable for the successful virtual coordination and construction on Blauch Brothers, Inc. assigned or sold construction projects. The VDC Manager supports the efforts of multiple departments as well as outside consultants and vendors to provide BIM/Spool drawings to facilitate pre-fabrication services for plan/spec and design build jobs. The VDC Manager will manage the CADD Operator(s). VDC Manager will also collaborate with Engineering, Control, Estimating, Project, Operations, and Service Managers, to implement a seamless transition from concept to design, from fabrication to installation. Lastly, the VDC Manager will assist in other tasks as assigned by their supervisor.

Normal Work Schedule:

The hours and days of work are as needed and at the direction of the Blauch Brothers, Inc. Director of Pre-Construction Services. Hours may be changed (increased or decreased) by Blauch Brother’s Inc. Director of Pre-Construction Services as required. Typically, this position will require between 43-47 hours a week.

 

This will typically be a Monday through Friday role, working five 8-9.5 hour days.

Weekly

  • Deliver usable, constructible models to allow adequate time for fabrication and install to meet the project schedule

  • Attend Friday project update meetings

  • Meet with your VDC team as needed

  • Initiate and drive VDC process with PM.

  • Effectively communicate with PM’s to promote open transfer of project specifics, changes, mark-ups, questions, etc.

  • Review work and projects for technical accuracy.

Monthly

  • Participate in the project forecast meetings

Quarterly 

  • Review department OKR’s and quantified outcomes

Annually

  • Participate in annual review

  • Perform annual performance & wage review(s) for subordinates

  • Further develop your HVAC & plumbing skills and knowledge by attending continuing education courses.

  • Maintain knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve design build and production efficiency.

Generally

  • Deliver usable, constructible models within the project schedule

  • Understand and achieve the project’s BIM requirements by participating in all relevant meetings, being familiar with project documents (drawings, specs, approved submittals, etc.) and maintaining contact with all key project personnel, likely including GC, BBI, subs, vendors, etc.

  • Provide oversight and distribution of BBI’s sub-contractor modeling and coordination work.

  • Ensure that PM Assistant has all current drawings

  • Supports and participates in The Unified Group, trade and peer groups, through attendance at training events, communication via email and responding to other members and insists on Mechanical Engineer participation.

Organizational Relationship

  • The VDC Manager reports to the Blauch Brothers, Inc. Director of Pre-Construction Services.

  • The VDC Manager directly supervises/oversees the BIM Operator(s), Sheet Metal Pre-fab shop, and Plumbing & Piping pre-fab shop

  • Any terminations will have to include and be approved by Blauch Brothers, Inc. Human Resources Manager.

Additional Requirements

Valid Virginia Driver’s License required along with an acceptable driving record as defined by our insurer

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform basic physical tasks normal to the HVAC trade, including but not limited to kneeling for long periods, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, bending, crawling, lifting at least 50 lbs. and be able to work with arms above head level for sustained periods of time; must be able to work in hot and cold temperatures and in adverse weather and job site conditions.
