HVAC COMMISSIONING TECHNICIAN

Job Description:
The Commissioning Technician provides comprehensive commissioning, start-up, service and repair to industrial and commercial customers throughout west central Virginia. The Commissioning Technician not only provides outstanding quality service and repair, but also serves as a communication link between the customer and the company. The Commissioning Technician performs a wide variety of activities that require an equally wide range of skills. The Commissioning Technician must be able install and service a wide variety of commercial systems (Chillers, boilers, VRF, etc.) and perform both simple and complex installations and repairs. Additionally, technicians must be able to develop customers’ trust through the credible communication of technical knowledge, offering decisive solutions to meet customer needs, and demonstrating empathy and concern. The Commissioning Technician is the face of the company to the public. Lastly, the Commissioning Tech will assist in other tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
Normal Work Schedule
Typically, this position requires 40-45 hours a week, Monday - Thursday working 10 - 11 hours daily. Hours may be changed (increased or decreased) by Blauch Brother’s Inc. Small Projects Supervisor as required to meet customer needs.
Responsibilities
Daily
-
Coordinate with the PM, sheet metal foreman, plumbing foreman, and Field Supervisors on the status of HVAC equipment install and project schedule

Perform start up on equipment once it has been installed correctly by construction crews and is ready to be started up

Troubleshoot issues with HVAC/plumbing equipment as they arise

Run warranty calls on equipment that has been started up

Follow company policies as outlined in the employee handbook and through performance and appearance reflect positively on your profession and the company.

Plan and organize the work site to meet priorities, goals and man hour allocation.

Perform all work correctly and accurately according to BBI standards.

Maintain safety standards and follow safety policies including safe and appropriate use of tools required for the job.

Communicate effectively with customers (Business owners, property manager, maintenance managers, project managers, foreman, etc.)
Weekly

Properly care for and maintain company owned property, i.e., vehicle, tools, equipment and materials are properly secured and locked in truck or on job site at the end of each day, etc.

Responsible for stopping in at projects that require start-up to verify proper installation of equipment

Review blue prints, submittals, and O&M’s of all equipment being started up

Fill out start up reports

Take detailed notes on all work performed while in the process of commissioning and starting up equipment

Help generate any RFI’s/change orders as needed

Coordinate and assist with manufacturer rep when the manufacturer is required to perform start up

Coordinate with subcontractors as needed

Provide comprehensive list of equipment with model, serial, and filter sizes to Preventative Maintenance salesman in order to generate a PM quote

Supports and participates in The Unified Group, trade and peer groups, through attendance at training events, communication via email and responding to other members

Willing to attend manufacturer specific training

Additional Requirements
Valid Virginia Driver’s License required along with an acceptable driving record as defined by our insurer
Experience
4-5 years of HVAC service or HVAC commissioning and start-up experience preferred. Prior construction experience preferred.
